Andrews and Plummer sat next to each other at the center of the long table, their backs to the room. When they spoke, they leaned close to each other, their heads almost touching.
Gradually, people at other tables started noticing them, shifting forward to see if they could believe their eyes. After all, the last time most of us saw the two of them together, they were climbing over that mountain to freedom.
And 50 years later, damn if they weren’t right here. Safe. And still a family. - Vanity Fair, The Sound of Music’s 50th Anniversary
[watching Spider-man Into the Spider-verse together for the first time]
The Kid: [nearly half way into the film] I like this movie, auntie.
Me: I’m glad that you like it, kid.
The Kid: [when Gwen Stacey appears in her Spider-Gwen uniform, HE GASPS] AUNTIE!
Me: What?
The Kid: WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME SHE WAS IN THIS?!
Me: [stunned he knows who she is] Uh… I’m sorry?
The Kid: SHE’S ONE OF MY FAVORITES! I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU DIDN’T TELL ME SHE WAS IN THIS MOVIE! [starts to bounce around the living room excitedly]
Me: Oh wow, okay. Sorry I should have told you.
[moments later the other trio from the Spider fam shows up]
The Kid: [hearts in his eyes] Who’s she?
Me: [glances at the screen] Who? Peni? That’s Peni Parker.
The Kid: I LOVE HER.
Me: She is pretty amazing, kid.
[later after the movie’s credits roll]
The Kid: Auntie, whose your favorite?
Me: Told you earlier, kiddo, I love Miles. He’s my favorite. What about you? [even though I already know]
The Kid: My favorite heroes are Spider-Gwen and Peni! [he pauses, then hesitates and becomes shy]
Me: Kid, they’re heroes. Just because you’re a little boy doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to have girl heroes as your favorite. You can like whatever hero you want.
The Kid: [looks at me like I’m dumb] I know that, auntie.
Me: Oh. Okay. Then…
The Kid: I want to watch it again! [gets shy] Please?
